A house is just a structure made of walls and roof. . . but to make your house feel like home is an entirely different story! A home is where we create memories, where we gather with family and friends, and where we come to rest after a long day.
So, whether you’re redesigning for comfort or intentionally looking to bring in ‘safe’ and ‘warm’ vibes, here are suggestions for transforming your space into the haven you and your loved ones deserve.
1. Start With The Front Door
The first impression of your home is important! So, make sure your front door is clean and welcoming. (Consider a fresh coat of paint, custom door ‘knocker,’ or even a little sign). Bring in a wreath or a few potted plants to add some life to your entryway. Or, even as something as simple as a doormat can create a personal touch.
You want your guests to feel warm and welcome as soon as they step through the door, so take some time to make your first steps inviting, too. And remember, a few simple touches can go a long way!
2. Add Ample Light
Lighting is important in any space, but it’s especially important in a home. Good lighting can make a space feel warm and inviting, while bad lighting can make it feel cold and distant. There are a few things you can do to improve the lighting in your home. First, take advantage of natural light by keeping your windows clean and opening them up during the day. If you have blinds or curtains, make sure they’re open so that sunlight can come in.
Secondly, you’ll want to add some artificial lighting to your space (especially if it’s already dark). Table lamps, floor lamps, and sconces are all great options for adding extra light to a room. When choosing light fixtures, be sure to go for something that fits your style.

Lastly, don’t forget about candles! Candles are a great way to add ambiance to any space and can make any house feel like home. . . especially for cozy cuddle sessions on the couch!
3. Bring In Color
Color is another important element in design, and it can have a big impact on the feel of a space. If you want your home to feel warm and inviting, stick to earth tones and jewel tones. These colors are known for being calming! If you’re looking for something a little more lively, try adding some bright accent colors. Yellow, orange, and pink are all great options for adding a pop of color to your space.
A few accents here and there will do the trick. When it comes to color, it’s all about finding what works best for you and your space. By experimenting with different colors, you can create a space that feels just right for you.
4. Get Cozy
One of the best ways to make your house feel like home is to make it cozy! There are a few different ways you can do this. If you feel like your home is filled with items that you hardly use or generally cluttered, it may be a good idea to start with furniture removal first.
After you’ve decluttered, you can choose furniture items that you love and will use. Then, consider adding some blankets and throws to your furniture. This will give you something to snuggle up in and just make the appearance more inviting. Secondly, think about adding some pillows to your space. Pillows are not only comfortable, but they can also add color and texture to a room, too.
There are a few key elements that can make a big difference in your home design! From the front door to the lighting, color, and coziness, there are many (small!) things you can do to create an inviting space. So, take some time to personalize your home and make it yours!
