Dental hygiene plays a crucial role in everyone’s life. In fact, we’ve all been taught the importance of teeth brushing, regular cleanings, and staying on top of our dental exams… yet, so many of us still have poor dental health. Well, the truth is, this is because of our high-sugar diets, quick-fixes, and overall neglect of our teeth (even when we think we’re doing a good job).

But, all hope is not lost! Here are 3 simple ways to change your habits and improve your dental health.

Brushing

Let’s start with the obvious! Brushing your teeth is obviously one of the most important things you can do to help improve your dental health. You’ve probably heard the old routine about brushing in circular motions twice a day countless times by your dentist, but there is way more to it than that.

As a matter of medical importance, you should be putting a considerable amount of thought into exactly what type of toothbrush is right for you, and how to use it. When it comes to toothbrushes, you need to make sure your brush isn’t too big or too small, too hard or too soft, and most importantly, you need to make sure you keep it clean.

Your toothbrush should be stored standing upright or in an antibacterial mouthwash while you’re not using it in order to minimize the amount of bacteria it picks up.

Here are some toothbrushes we love:

Using The Right Toothpaste

In terms of toothpaste, it’s important to use a toothpaste that has the right concentration of fluoride for you. Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps protect your teeth by strengthening the enamel and helps your teeth become less susceptible to cracks and chips. Generally, adults should use toothpaste that contains roughly 1,350 parts per million fluoride, and children under 6 should use a toothpaste with at least 1,000 ppm.

However, some toothpaste brands are completely flouride-free, which is an all-natural option that may be preferred!

That may all sound very technical, but there are a range of options out there when it comes to reliable brands of toothpaste, and making these little changes to your daily routine will make all the difference!

Teeth Straightening

One of the most effective ways of making sure you are taking care of your overall dental health is by ensuring that your teeth are straight. There are a number of ways that misaligned teeth can be straightened. The most obvious is through the use of braces, but for misalignments resulting from damage or decay, dental crowns can be a great way to restore your teeth to their original shape. Straight teeth are easier to brush, floss and clean, and will lead to confident, happy kids!
