Your home is your go-to, your safe space, and the place where you and your family are able to be most themselves. Naturally, it makes sense to want to improve the value of your home where you can. . . regardless of whether you’re planning to relocate in the future or not.
For many of us, finding a place to call our own is so rewarding! But chances are, your first home isn’t your dream home. So, moving in the future is a definite possibility.
Here are some ways to update your space and improve the overall appeal (monetarily and otherwise):
1. Focus On The Structure
The foundation is the most important piece (of a home, relationship, or anything you build!). For many homeowners, the biggest reason a property fails to grow in value or fails to sell is because of structural or foundational flaws.
It’s important for you to check on your home’s foundation and make sure it’s sound. Be sure to check the ground (looking carefully at any slipping or weather damage), the walls, or the roof. If you’re able to survey yourself, great! If not, you can hire a property surveyor to give you a professional opinion and report. If you find issues, be sure to address them as soon as possible.
2. Prioritize The Interior Aesthetics
Many people underestimate the importance of a beautiful interior. . . and this can mean anything from a kitchen or bathroom remodel (two of the most used spaces in the home!) to a fresh coat of paint on the walls.
Regardless of whether you’re planning to relocate and sell your home or not, having updated interior aesthetics will greatly improve the value of your home. Think about it: the inside is the first part someone will see and connect with! Having a space with neutral colors, interconnected schemes, intentional layouts, productive storage areas, and updated appliances will help to captivate them and make them feel as if this space could be their new home.
3. Update The Exterior
The inside is important for first impressions, but don’t get ahead of yourself! The outdoor areas are just as important too, as people often make a snap judgement about a space based upon what it looks like from the outside.
Here are a few ways you can improve the exterior of your home:
- Cleaning up the yard
- Landscaping (or hiring someone to do this!)
- Repainting the exterior walls/siding
- Updating and cleaning the windows
- Connecting indoor and outdoor spaces
- Repaving the driveway
- Fixing or replacing the roof
While you don’t have to do all of these things, prioritizing the outside of your home can help to leave a stronger impression and encourage people to see the value of your home before they even step inside!
These tips should help you to increase the value of your home.
