Tired Mama: Here’s How You Can Improve Your Smile

You’re a mama. You’re the go-to, the helper, the guardian, and the guiding light. You’re the one that everyone turns to, and naturally, you’re the voice, face, and arms, that people gravitate towards the second you walk into the room. That being said, you deserve to have a beautiful, radiant smile. . . a smile that’s reflective of your personality. From natural shifts to products you can invest in, here are a few ways you can improve your smile and feel more confident in your own skin.

1. Practice Proper Brushing Techniques

One of the most important things you can do for your teeth is to brush them properly. Be sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. A soft-bristled toothbrush helps to protect your gums from damage, and fluoride toothpaste will help to strengthen your teeth.

When brushing your teeth, angle the toothbrush towards the gum line and use gentle circular motions. The reason for circular motions is that it helps to remove plaque more effectively than back-and-forth motions. (Back-and-forth motions can also damage your gums!)

When brushing the inside surfaces of your teeth, use a light back-and-forth motion on your tongue in order to remove bacteria. The back-and-forth motion here is okay because you are not putting as much pressure on your tongue as you would on your teeth. It is also recommended that you brush your teeth for two minutes at least twice a day. If you have trouble brushing your teeth for two minutes, try setting a timer for one minute and gradually increasing the time until you can brush for two minutes comfortably.

2. Learn How To Floss

Flossing is just as important as brushing your teeth because it helps remove plaque and bacteria between your teeth that your toothbrush cannot reach. To floss properly:

  • Wind the floss around your middle fingers, leaving about an inch or two of floss to work with.
  • Gently insert the floss in between your teeth using a back-and-forth motion.
  • Be careful not to snap the floss into your gums, as this can damage them.
  • When you get to the gum line, curve the floss into a C shape and use gentle up and down motions to clean along the gum line.

3. Consider Dental Crowns

If you have chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth, dental crowns may be a good option for you. Dental Crowns are caps that are placed over your existing teeth. They can be made from various materials, including ceramic, porcelain, and metal. (Porcelain dental crowns are the most popular type as they look the most natural!)

Dental crowns can help restore the function and appearance of your teeth and protect weak or damaged teeth from further damage.

4. Opt For Teeth-Whitening

If you are unhappy with the color of your teeth, you may want to consider getting a teeth whitening procedure. Teeth whitening can be done at your dentist’s office or at home using a dentist’s kit. In-office teeth whitening is more expensive, but it is also more effective and faster than at-home kits.

5. Try Invisalign

Invisalign is a popular alternative to traditional braces. These are clear, plastic aligners that are virtually invisible when worn. Invisalign is an excellent option for adults who want to straighten their teeth without metal brackets and wires. The average treatment time for Invisalign is 12 months, but this will vary from person to person.

There are a number of things that you can do to get the beautiful smile that you have always wanted! Be sure to practice proper brushing and flossing techniques, consider dental crowns, and invest in the physical aspects when budget and time allow. With these tips, you will have the beautiful smile the world is lucky to see!
