If you’re thinking about moving to a new home, it’s important to remember that decision can be difficult. Sometimes it’s easier, more comfortable, or even safer (financially, emotionally, socially, etc.) to stay where you are. But sometimes, leaving and/or starting over somewhere new just feels right.
Here are some (legitimate) reasons to move to a new home to help you decipher what choice might be right for you and your family.
1. Critical Job Opportunities
The first reason (and perhaps the primary one for many people) is that you come across an opportunity to expand your career options that you simply can’t ignore.
Whether it’s a new position, a higher salary, or something that just aligns with your overall goals, sometimes the downsides of moving are outweighed by the positives of a new position or employment.
2. Unbearable Neighborhood/Community Issues
You’re not always going to love your neighbors, but sometimes the community or neighborhood you’re in simply isn’t the right fit. Whether there’s a safety concern, misalignment in values, lack of connection, or specific disagreements, if you’re feeling isolated within your community, it may be time for a change.
A big reason to move to a new home is to start over, provide a new socialization opportunity (for yourself and/or children), and build a new (and safe!) community.
Ideally, you want to find somewhere that you’d thrive socially with the right hobbies and values. If you can’t find a community like that, it can make life more challenging and make you feel as if you aren’t really living the way you want to.
3. Major Life Transition
Another reason you might move home is because you’re going through a major life transition and you want something new. Many people do this when they want to live in new countries or have quit work for good. Or, it can also come about from challenging moments, like divorce or family separation.
However, despite the circumstances around the move, finding another place to live is fun and feels like a fresh start (even in the most challenging of times).
4. Climate Concerns
If you have climate concerns, that might be a reason to move, too. If you think you’re in an area prone to fires or flooding in the future, then moving today when prices are still favorable makes a lot of sense.
Climate concerns are a significant issue in today’s economy with so many dire predictions for the future. Moving could be an excellent way to get ahead of the curve.
5. Home Repair Problem
Finally, you might want to move because there’s a problem with your house that you can’t fix. If that’s the case, it may actually be more advantageous to sell the home as a fixer-upper and move on.
If that’s the case, it might be a good idea to invest in a place like the Harper Macleod estate agency, which will not only support you in the estate planning but will help you make the most of your home sale.
Regardless of your reason(s) for wanting to move, we often feel strongly about making a change simply because it feels right. If you’re feeling called to relocate and/or start over, know that your intuition is telling you something for a reason!
And most importantly, don’t be afraid of what’s to come.
