Wellness at work is just as essential as self-care at home. In fact, even more so when you consider how much time we, as mamas, actually spend doing our jobs! A good plan for wellness, mental health, and stress management will make all the difference.
Here are some suggestions:
Take Care of Your Senses
Personal health directly correlates with work performance. (When you feel good, you perform well, right?!) If you feel tired, achy, and lack motivation, you won’t master your goals. Not to mention you’ll feel totally burnt out when you get home and will struggle to connect with your partner and/or kids.
Some basic wellness starting points are scheduling regular check-ups, like your eye and hearing test. While this is easy to do for your kids, it’s often harder to do for yourself. . . but, make it a priority, mama!
Also, take a closer look at your diet. Eating a balanced, nutrient-dense diet will boost energy and focus. Supplements can also increase this.
Create a Plan that Works for You
If you want lifestyle changes to be implemented into your daily schedule, then it’s best to create a solid plan. Start by asking yourself this: What is my biggest problem at work?
Do you lack energy? Do you have trouble talking to colleagues? Or are you struggling to stay focused? Understanding the problem means you can address it head-on. Then, you can build your plan from there and work on issues one by one.
Get Others Involved in Wellness at Work
Certain things can be challenging to do alone (a good example is exercise!). However, studies have shown that we exercise better with a partner or in a group because we encourage each other. The same goes for fatigue or disconnect with our work in general—when we rely on others for a support system, we can improve these areas!
Getting colleagues involved in any/all wellness at work initiatives will help both you and them. Or, if you don’t feel comfortable starting this up, connect with your employer to see if he/she will start these initiatives.
Create a Space for Wellness Discussion
Not everyone has the confidence to join in group classes and activities. But remember that wellness comes from more than physical activity! You can pursue wellness at work by focusing on your (and your colleagues’) mental health.
If you’re looking for a way to pilot this, create an online group for the office on social media such as Facebook! This will be a safe space where people can talk things through. A ‘Wellness’ login section on the company website or app will also work just as well and encourage employees to get involved.
Honestly, prioritizing wellness at work isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. Start by taking some small steps, because in time, these little steps will lead to big changes.
