How To Have Great Hair Days As A Mom

There’s something so magical about having a great hair day as a mom! When your hair falls just the right way, when it’s shiny, and when you love the way it makes you look (and feel)—everything is just better!

But the truth is. . . great hair days aren’t always easy to achieve, and when there’s bad weather, you’re in a rush, or you’re using a product that probably isn’t helping, they’re very rare days.

However, not all hope is lost! You can have great hair days as mom with a few intentional changes (and a positive mindset).

1. Know Your Hair Type

If you really want to have a great hair day, you need to understand what hair type you have so you know exactly what you’re working with.

Is your hair straight, wavy, or curly? Is it dry or oily? Is it thick or thin? Knowing your hair type will help you choose the right products, get the right styles, and even understand how to style it better yourself so you can wake up looking fantastic.

It might be that the style you currently have isn’t the right one for your hair type or the look you want to achieve in the end, so why not think about changing things and trying out something new? If you’re feeling adventurous, you can experiment with perms for women to add a bit of curl and bounce to your hair. But, remember that any major changes to your hair type will require different products. (So, make sure you do your research before changing anything!).

2. Keep Your Hair Hydrated

If you want to have great hair days as a mom, you don’t want dry, brittle hair. The problem is, dry hair comes along so easily—everything from the weather to your styling tools can cause it, and then it’s hard to put things back how they were again.

One thing to bear in mind is that if you have naturally dry hair or skin, is that you have to be intentional about your hydration routine! Just like you put lotion on dry skin, you may need to add hair oil or a special conditioner to your product line up.

Do your research first (because the quality in this case really does make a difference) and use a hair mask or deep conditioning treatment once a week to support hydration and trap moisture.

3. Enjoy Your Natural Texture

Here’s one thing to get straight (hehe); the natural texture of your hair is gorgeous, and you don’t need to change it to have a great hair day. In fact, the more you can embrace it and work with it, the better it—and you—will look.

When it comes to enjoying your natural texture, the key is to work with it, not against it, so you’ll need the right products. For example, if you have straight hair, you’re going to want lightweight products and can add volume. If you have waves or curls, it might be a good idea to get a curl cream or mousse to scrunch in while your hair is damp.

No matter what kind of hair you have, hydration is vital, so make sure that’s part of your routine as well. And if you’re not sure how to take care of the texture you have, that’s okay—speak to an expert for proper advice and you’ll see quickly whether it’s working or not.

4. Protect Your Hair While You Sleep

Although it might seem strange, your haircare actually starts at night (especially if you’re someone who takes a shower in the evening). You can wear a hair mask or bonnet. Or, a simple fix can be shifting to a silk or satin pillowcase which will cause less friction on your hair (which will reduce frizz!)

And, if you have longer hair, make sure you tie it up in a loose bun or a plait/braid—that’s going to help keep it tangle-free. This means easier styling and less painful brushing sessions when you wake up!
