Your health matters and is not something to take lightly. And in being a parent—especially being a present parent—you have to remember that your wellness/wellbeing isn’t just about you but others, too.
As moms and dads, we’re often running around taking care of things and (sometimes unintentionally) putting others’ needs before our own. In some cases, our health falls to the wayside because we’re just so busy or so focused on what everyone else needs, namely our child(ren).
But the truth is, when we prioritize our own health, everyone benefits. It’s time to take up space, to put your needs first, and to make sure that you’re healthy so that you can give from a full cup (rather than an empty one).
Here are some important areas to take note of:
Focus On Your Mental Health
First and foremost, let’s talk about mental health. Our emotional states/wellbeings are often tough to talk about, but it’s so important.
Society has told us for many years that our feels are shameful to talk about and that’s just not true. You wouldn’t feel shame telling someone that you had broken your arm or leg, so why would you feel shame for telling them that there is something wrong in your mind?!
Mental health issues aren’t just random or scarce—they’re very common. In fact, they can happen to each and every one of us. And we need to be able to recognize the signs of mental health problems to get the resources we need.
Prioritize Healing Your Neck/Back Pain
Are you someone who experiences pain in their neck and back but there doesn’t seem to be any reason for it? Or, do you know what is causing it but nothing seems to be helping? Or there isn’t much that your doctor can do? If you’re nodding your head yes to any of those questions, the answer is to seek a family chiropractor.
A chiropractor doesn’t just look at the pain but the causes behind it. Oftentimes there is something out of alignment or a bigger issue causing the stress in those areas. Chiropractic care is non-invasive (unlike a surgery or even intense medicine, topical solutions, etc.). When you visit a chiropractor (or even better, set up a reoccurring plan), you can support your neck, back, spine, and overall nervous system.
Explore The Root Cause(s) Of Exhaustion
Hey mom/dad, while being a parent can be super tough sometimes (especially based on the ages of your children), you’re actually not supposed to feel tired all of the time. If you find yourself feeling super tired, it could be a sign of something deeper: an underlying health condition, sleep issues, nervous system problems, hormonal imbalances, gut/digestive issues, etc.
If you’ve been feeling extreme exhaustion (and can’t pinpoint a specific cause), it may be time to book a doctor appointment. There’s no shame in seeking an expert’s opinion, especially if you’ve tried some of the natural fixes: better sleep, outsourcing so you don’t feel as stressed, taking vitamins, prioritizing health and hydration, etc.
Remember: Your health matters! The most important thing you can do—especially as a parent—is to focus on your health, wellbeing, and needs so that you’re able to not only be the parent your child(ren) deserve but so that you can set an example for them and their long-term health, too.
