Keep Your Child Fit And Free From Illness

how to keep your kids free from illness

As summer winds down, it’s important to start thinking about the fall and winter months, especially if you’re a parent. This means ensuring that your child gets back in a school routine, stays fit and free from illness, has enough vitamins and healthy foods in his/her diet, and keeps a balance between ‘work’ and play.

Regardless of the age(s) of your kiddos, here are some tips to help keep the youngest members of your family happy, healthy, and strong.

Help Them Develop A Healthy Diet

First, it’s important to make sure that your child is getting the right diet. A healthy diet will help ensure that your child does build up a strong immune system that will keep them safe from most diseases and illnesses.

There are plenty of things that should be included in your child’s diet: calcium, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Iron just to name a few. You may want to prioritize antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids, which are often hard for littles to eat. Fish can be a great source of vitamins for your child, so you may want to try wild caught fish. Children can be picky with food but it’s important to expand their palette and their diet as much as you can to keep them healthy.

Focus On Fitness

Another way to ensure that your child has a healthy immune system would be to make sure that they stay fit and active. These days, this is easier said than done for parents, especially when screens are involved! If your kiddos love technology it may be hard to sway them to fitness at first, but once you find something they enjoy, they’ll have to buy-in!

Prioritize Hygiene

If we learned anything from the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s that not nearly enough people are washing their hands regularly. It’s important to make sure that you are encouraging your children to wash regularly, paying particular attention to their hands. If you watch a child wash their hands, you’ll find that a lot of them will spend no more than a couple of seconds with their hands underneath the water. This isn’t enough time to get rid of the germs.

Stay Up-To-Date On Check-Ups

Finally, you need to make sure that you are completing the right health check-ups throughout the year, as well as paying attention to the warning signs of illness. If you notice that your child has a sudden change in their behavior, check their temperature or take them to see a doctor. That way, you can quickly start giving them the medication, comfort, and support that they need and, if you have other kids, prevent illness spreading through your household.
