6 Cost-Effective Ways To Improve Your Kitchen

As a parent, naturally, you spend quite a few hours in the kitchen. From making breakfast and packing lunches in the morning to sipping wine while washing dishes at the end of the night, the kitchen is a space for socialization, day-to-day routines, and even comfort (sometimes). But, chances are, you may want to modernize your kitchen, or at least find some cost-effective ways to improve your kitchen.

If you’re looking for ways to spruce up your kitchen without breaking the bank, here are a few of my favorite (and relatively easy) ideas:

Create More Light

Your kitchen, regardless of whether it’s a large or small room, will need plenty of light. And sometimes, no matter what kind of decor you have, your kitchen can feel dark and closed in. Consider replacing your kitchen curtains with light-colored blinds, and replace your kitchen light with spotlights to help open up the room.

Blinds are a great alternative as you can adjust them to let in as much light as you desire, and you can close them for privacy if you need to. Letting in more light will also create the illusion of a bigger room, which is perfect for oddly shaped or small kitchens.

Consider Installing Air Conditioning

Your kitchen is quickly filled with smells and warm air every time you cook. This is great while you’re waiting to eat your delicious meal. However, food smells can linger in your kitchen, and they can even make their way into soft furnishings over time, leaving your kitchen smelling…well, not great.

Installing air conditioning will help remove these smells, as well as keep your kitchen nice and cool when the oven is on. Not only that, if you’re entertaining in the summertime, you can keep your guests nice and cool without having to crack open any windows. It’s worth noting that with air conditioning you should have the filters and air ducts regularly cleaned. You can do this yourself, but you can also hire companies like DUCTZ to come and professionally clean your air conditioning.

Give Your Cupboards New Life

Kitchen cabinets can start to look outdated over time, and unfortunately, they can be rather costly to replace! Instead of forking out lots of money to replace your kitchen cabinets, why not give them a new life with a fresh coat of paint? Frenchic paint is trending for kitchen cupboards at the moment as it’s hard-wearing, easy to apply, low on fumes, and has a range of exciting colors to choose from.

If you’re looking for cost-effective ways to improve your kitchen, painting and changing your color scheme is definitely the move!

Upcycle Instead of Replacing Your Countertops

Your countertops can also become very worn over time, especially if you chop or sometimes put hot items on the surface. However, much like kitchen cabinets, replacing your countertops can be very costly, not to mention a back-breaking job!

If your countertops still function perfectly fine, why not upcycle them to improve their look? An extremely inexpensive way of doing this is by using DC-Fix. This is essentially sticky back plastic to cover your worktops with, and it comes in a wide variety of styles and colours! It’s fairly simple to apply to your countertops and can help create a sleek and expensive look in your kitchen for a fraction of the price.

Replace Door Handles

One of the most cost-effective ways to improve your kitchen is to paint. And if you’ve done any painting (especially on doors or cabinets), you may want to consider replacing door handles to complete your look.

You can pick up kitchen door handles very cheap from most DIY outlets, and they’re super easy to fit! You can transform your kitchen within an afternoon by changing outdated handles for new and stylish ones.

Give Your Appliances Some TLC

Finally, like most items in your kitchen, your appliances can begin to look worn and old due to dents and scratches. But, you can simply deep-clean them (you know, that chore you’ve been putting off!) and find appliance-proof paint to match your kitchen color scheme.
