Hey Busy Mama: Are You Aware Of These Home Risks?

Being a mama can be overwhelming sometimes! There are personal tasks to keep track of, work obligations to prioritize, and, of course, your children and their needs (which almost always take precedence above everything else). In all that craziness, something that often gets overlooked is home risks.

Although you may think you live in a safe space, there may be some underlying concerns that can severely compromise the safety of you and your loved ones.

Cracks (They Really Do Break A Mama’s Back!)

You might not realize the severity of a crack in the wall, floor, or ceiling… but if these little cracks are ignored, it can really pose a serious danger! If you notice a crack (even in the exterior foundation), it’s a good idea to call someone to assess the situation. Make sure you get in touch with local Foundation Repair Companies as soon as possible. They will know what to do and can determine whether you have a small risk or something more serious.

Security System Malfunctions

When you invest in a security system, you’re often confident (and so much so that you quickly forget any risks). Don’t do this! Although a security system keeps your home safe, it can also become incredibly vulnerable if you’re not careful. For example, if you’re someone who likes to use Smart Home technology to keep your home safe, it’s a good idea to consistently review how these systems are working. After all, hackers are becoming more and more knowledgeable and sneaky.

Be sure to change your passwords on these devices on a regular basis and use a different password for each one. Similarly, turn on two-factor authentication to make sure you are notified whenever someone is attempting to log in. With a two-factor authentication, you’re the only one who can see the code that allows a person access. This can ensure you’re the only one getting in (so don’t give this code to anyone else!)

Something else that might help is investing in a video-enabled door alarm that allows you to see who’s at the door whenever a motion sensor is tripped. This can help you to immediately call the police, if necessary.

Water Damage

Water damage can be incredibly damaging to a property, both physically (and to your bank account).

But what can you do? First, check for leaks on a regular basis. Even if your tap is dripping overnight, you could waste 5 gallons of water in one go, which could make your water bill much more expensive! Similarly, if you have a basement, make sure you know how well the sump pump is working. Without it being serviced at least once a year, your basement could start to flood without you even knowing.

Home safety issues can be common, but you’re not powerless! Hopefully, these tips have helped you to be aware if an issue were to arise.
