As parents head back to work (virtual or in-person), they have a lot to plan for. These transitions call for scheduling (and often tight schedules), pre-planning work time, and prioritizing. It can be challenging to balance work, children, and life, and committing to one thing can make you neglect the other.

At work, you will have projects to complete within a given timeframe, a boss or employees holding you accountable, and potentially minimal breaks or extended ‘on-the-clock’ time. Given the number of shifts with the pandemic as well, this can put you under a lot of pressure.

Your children will want attention from you, too. They will want to be taken and picked up from school (if the school is in-person), spend quality time with you, and engage in some educational activities. They might also want to engage in outdoor activities over the weekend for some family bonding. It’s also not uncommon for kids to get into trouble at school and this might require your time or presence.

If you have a toddler, it can also be challenging to find the right nanny who can look after your child when you go to work. You may already be considering a daycare for toddlers to help you navigate the schedules.

As a parent, you have a lot on your plate, and unfortunately, neglecting your responsibility can lead to resentment from your children.

This can mean starting with what is important and doing the rest later or delegating to someone else.
